DIY: Caregiver Basket with Poise

I am known for making friends with everyone, especially new neighbors. I love the feeling of a close knit neighborhood where everyone knows everyone else and it’s almost like a big family. So a few months ago, when an older couple moved in a few houses down I was the first one knocking on their door with homemade cookies, welcoming them to the neighborhood. And boy, am I glad I did! I visit with them several times a week and Gina and Leon have fast become a part of our neighborhood family. Everyone loves them because they are fun and sassy! They have great stories about their kids and grandchildren who all live a couple of hours away. Gina can cook like nobody’s business and Leon is always inviting us over to have dinner with them.

Since their children don’t live close by and they both have some health problems, I have taken to calling and asking if they need anything when I am going to the store, running some errands for them and just doing anything I can to make sure that they are okay. I have become their unofficial caregiver and I love every minute I spend with them. The other day I was picking up some things at Sam’s Club and I was inspired to surprise Gina and Leon with a special gift.
They both have an amazing sense of humor and I remembered that they had joked with me about having to wear “diapers” when I get older. So I knew that incontinence was an issue that they both were dealing with and I wanted to show them that they didn’t need diapers to feel confident and secure. With Poise® and Depend®, nobody but us would ever have to know that they had an incontinence problem, they’re as far from diapers as you could possibly get and keep you dry and odor free! I also want them to know just how much I care about them and love them; they are a very important part of my life.
So, I decided to make them a gift basket with some things they need and some goodies that I knew they would love:

I chose some frosted animal crackers and some butter cookies; that they both love.
A warm fleece blanket since it’s cold season, and I chose a navy tamoxifen buy usa blue blanket with Anchors since Leon was in the US Navy;
A box for each of Depend® Fit-Flex® Underwear for Men and Poise® Pads for Women,
A Coffee/Tea mug for each of them, reflecting their personalities,
Coloring book and coloring pencils,
An inspirational framed picture for their wall,
and of course some magazines and crossword puzzle books which Leon swears by to “keep his old brain moving”(his words, not mine, lol).

When I got home I got to work and you are going to love how simple this is!  I got all my stuff together and took out a large pretty basket.

Then I lined it with some tissue paper (also on hand) and arranged all the goodies in the basket.

You can add a bow on the top or even wrap the entire basket in clear cellophane for a more professional look but I chose to keep it simple.

I am going to take Gina and Leon to Sam’s Club to get their prescription refills and take advantage of the free health screenings they offer members. While I am there, I will be redeeming my sticker for my caregiver’s sample pack. After that, I will take Gina and Leon to lunch. I am really looking forward to our day out together and I know Sam’s club will have everything we need.

Are you a caregiver? What do you do to make the person or people you care for feel special? I would love it if you shared with me in the comments below.
