The support a Mother needs: Amwell Lactation Services #MomsLoveAmwell

As a Mom of 6 kids, I have had my share of adventurous births, from a two week overdue 1st child to a 22 week old preemie. I have had many challenges as well as triumphs as a Family of 8

and one of my biggest challenges was always breastfeeding.  As an 18 year old first time Mom, I was completely lost.  I wanted to nurse my baby and be the best Mother I could, but I had no one to turn to for help or support; and by the end of my first week as a Mom I had to quit and turn to formula.

As the four youngest ones came along, they were all born at 30, 28, 24, 22 weeks and with those early births came many challenges. Nursing my kids was the greatest one for me and as much as I tried to get help and support; it just wasn’t there.
We rented breast pumps so I could pump while my babies were in the NICU, but with the stress, pain, and lack of knowledge; I just had no place to turn. I had 3 meetings with the hospital lactation consultant, but she lacked patience and there was no support outside of the hospital. Going online was more confusing than trying to read the breast pump directions, which only came in Chinese for some reason.
Needless to say, I quit trying and resorted to formula feeding my children.

Fast forward to the present, I am glad to see that there is so much support out there for nursing (or attempting to) Women out there; many times the only thing keeping someone from quitting is just receiving a little support.
So when the opportunity came along to work with Amwell to get the word out regarding support for nursing Mothers; I jumped on it.
I remember the feelings I had of being all alone, and I don’t want anyone to feel the way I did.

Check out this Mother’s day video from Amwell…

If only I had this lactation service when I needed it as a younger Mother, I know it would have helped me continue my plan to nurse my children.

What is Amwell’s Lactation Services

Lactation video consults allow new mothers to ask questions, address concerns, or get advice concerning breastfeeding and everything that comes along with feeding their newborn.

See a lactation consultant for common questions and issues associated with breastfeeding. The lactation services are provided by a network of International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). They can provide help on a number of issues such as latching, breast pain due to feeding issues, questions about milk supply, pumping or going back to work or school as well as many more.

The support a Mother needs: Amwell Lactation Services #MomsLoveAmwell

Why should a new mom use our lactation services?

–        Lactation consultants are not available at every hospital this addresses that issue.

–        New mothers have so many questions when it comes to breastfeeding their new babies, however, not every mother is able to see a board-certified lactation consultant to help answer those questions before leaving the hospital

–        Video allows the consultants to assist with latching, breast pain due to feeding issues, questions about milk supply or going back work

–        Allows new mothers at any stage to get answers to their questions and issues usually within 24 hours of request.

I saw another post you had on this and think it is such a great service!!! Breastfeeding sure can be tricky and it’s great that a video chat service is available!

It’s great to hear that Amwell has added lactation services for nursing moms. I had so many questions back in the day when I was a new mom and breastfeeding. This is awesome!

I nursed all my children. Always thought if a woman could that should be the way to go, plus I showed my husband the cost of formula and he about died. Nice to get help if it is needed.

This sounds so wonderful. I know some women struggle with breastfeeding and this could help a lot. I will pass this onto my pregnant friends.

We definitely could’ve use something like this when our son was a newborn. At first I wasn’t quite sure how to nurse electrician specialist would’ve been wonderful help.

I wish something like this was around when I had my oldest. I remember feeling so insecure, and the lady at the hospital wasn’t that warm- she kind of made me more insecure. It would’ve been nice to be in the comfort of my own home knowing that there was someone available to me whenever I needed.

I am just getting to know about Amwell but it looks like a great service for health and minor illnesses. I don’t need the lactation services but its a great resource for people who need it.

Nursing is great but women need to stop letting it define themselves as mothers. Just because one mother can breastfeed and another can’t doesn’t make us great. 3 out of 4 of my kids I breast fed. My third I breastfed for 8 months. My fourth I couldn’t nurse him. Tried for about 2 weeks and said screw it. It wasn’t worth the stress for me. It’s great there is help out there.

Wow that is an awesome service! I definitely struggled a bit in the beginning and suffered with a lower supply, so this would have been an amazing help!

What a great thing for new mothers! I love that technology is building up to points where it can be directly helpful for those needing it but unable to get out of the house!

I love using a lactation consultant when I have issues. My firstborn never latched. It’s great to do it out of your own home too.

Amwell looks to be such a wonderful and very needed service for those breastfeeding or attempting to do so. I think many women don’t realize how difficult it can be to establish a good breastfeeding relationship and the support is so needed during those first few difficult days or weeks.

So weird that your breast pump instructions only came in Chinese. It is great there is more support for women now with options like Amwell lactation counseling.

Lactation help and support is so important to new moms. I know that I had questions when I was a new mom and breastfeeding.

This is so helpful and convenient! Breastfeeding doesn’t come naturally to everyone, and when I struggled with it, I had no one to ask. Those they I knew that did it had an easy time and had no real advice to offer. This is such a great resource for moms!

This sounds so helpful. I know a couple of women struggle with breastfeeding, I wonder if they know about this.

I didn’t know what I was doing the first baby either – but I had a great lactation consultant from my hospital – I think that changes everything. But you also have to have a good family support as well, I didn’t really, but i just wanted to nurse and I wasn’t going to let aye change mind.

This is so amazing. I breastfed my oldest and I am currently doing the same with my youngest. I know it isn’t easy for everyone, and so many moms can use the help but don’t have access to it. This can really help so many

I am glad to know theyve added lactation services. I had one come in the hospital and show me how to position and get the latch correctly.. i think my daughter had a lip tie that was causing her to not latch proprrly sometimes. It was painful but i didn’t give up.
